The Rawlings Xtreme Synthetic Sparring Longsword is a training-focused blade developed in collaboration with Dave Rawlings of the London Longsword Academy for the HEMA community. At 48½” overall with a 38″ black blade, it’s built from reinforced high-impact polymer rather than steel, making it substantially safer for sparring while still delivering realistic weight and flex characteristics. The blade is engineered to flex in the final third toward the tip, enabling safer thrusting practice than traditional wooden wasters. A high-tensile steel rod runs the full length of the tang to eliminate handle flex common in plastic training swords, and the thermoplastic elastomer grip absorbs strike impact while maintaining a secure fit on the tang. Weighing roughly two-thirds of a steel sword, it’s heavier than most wooden wasters but reduces impact force during contact. The pommel features a molded brass nut that compresses the grip against the black guard via a metal-to-metal joint, and the entire sword disassembles easily for transport. It’s also suitable for theatrical use.
